Tunnels to Towers Foundation

Independent Carpet One has been involved in the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation for over 7 years providing flooring for two smart adaptable homes for two catastrophically injured soldiers here in Michigan. They have attended 6 of the New York City T2T run/walks, tracing the steps that Stephen Gerard Siller, a NYC Firefighter, took on September 11th after putting on 60 lbs of gear on his back and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers where he perished saving the lives of others. The foundation honors their brother Stephen and the other 343 firefighters and police officers that also perished that day. Their efforts have placed over 75 service men and their families into smart homes, helped with the efforts of Hurricane Sandy, placing our Gold Star Families into mortgage free homes and many other efforts for our first responders and their families.
Independent Carpet One will continue to participate in the efforts of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation along with fellow Carpet One members across the United States.
You can learn about the foundation at www.T2T.org

Turn the Towns Teal

Did you know that there is no conclusive early detection test for early stages of ovarian cancer? In December of 1997 Gail MacNeil was diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer after numerous trips to the gynecologist, complaining of classic symptoms that were dismissed as being the onset of middle age. Gail started the Turn the Towns teal campaign, placing ribbons all over her town in New Jersey (after receiving permission of course!) at the beginning of September for National Ovarian Cancer month. By 2015, the campaign had registrants in all 50 states! Its goal is to promote awareness of ovarian cancer, its subtle symptoms, and risk factors. Volunteers bring attention to this by tying the USA-made ribbons in locations of their town including town centers, businesses, places of worship and neighborhood properties.

Independent Carpet One has proudly been turning the towns of Wayne and Westland Michigan Teal since 2012! Learn more about the organization, symptoms, risk factors, and how to donate and get involved here.

Building for America’s Bravest

In 2015, Independent Carpet One was given the opportunity to help build a smart home for SGT Eric Lund. In 2012 Eric was deployed in Afghanistan for his first tour of duty and nearly lost his life after the Military All-Terrain Vehicle he was in hit an IED sustaining multiple serious injuries including the loss of both of his arms. Eric’s aunt Melissa Boggs reached out to us after watching a video in Houston, Texas, while Eric was at the hospital recovering. They went to the Houston Carpet One store nearby and were referred to us as the home was to be built in Ludington, Michigan. During the project, we sent our installer out to Ludington for a week to install wood and carpet throughout the house. The photos depicted here were both from the home in Ludington, as well as another home we assisted with in Alpena. Learn more here.

Pink Ribbon Campaign: Together we can Welcome a Cure for Breast Cancer

This year, thousands of women in North America will be diagnosed with breast cancer. While many women will pass away from the disease, more and more will survive because of research into breast cancer’s causes and improved treatments.

Independent Carpet One Floor & Home is proud to support the search for a cure for breast cancer with the Carpet One Floor & Home Welcomes Your Support campaign. To date, Carpet One Floor & Home stores have raised more than $800,000 USD to support this wonderful cause in the United States and Canada!

We contribute 25% from the sales of our specially-designed pink ribbon welcome mats towards breast cancer research and awareness. Funds raised in the United States will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®, while funds raised in Canada will go to the Canadian Cancer Society. Independent Carpet One Floor & Home’s collection of welcome mats features colors and themes for every season. New mats featuring the pink ribbon are introduced each October in an effort to promote breast cancer awareness.

Made of plush nylon, the welcome mats are water and stain-resistant, machine-washable, and can be used both indoors and out. Visit our showroom to shop our full selection and join us in welcoming a cure for breast cancer. You can also learn more here.
